For the first time since I started Two Arrows, I took some self imposed “down time.” And I have to say, it has been one of the best things I could do for me and my business at this time.
I knew I needed to hit reset, but this reset and recharge has done wonders. I’m finally catching up on projects I have been putting off all year. I rebuilt my website, established goals and a game plan for the coming year, began chipping away at taxes, AND I’m finally getting to edit personal shoots!
One of the things that is important to me as a photographer, is that I attend one, in person workshop a year. I am constantly watching conferences or trainings online, but in person is a whole other ballgame. Not only do you receive the one-on-one ability to ask questions and interact, the networking is worth it’s weight in gold. Building relationships with other people in your field is a gift.
For 2016, I chose to attend the Katelyn James Workshop Experience. I drove 13 hours from my home in Kentucky to Virginia — My longest drive solo — last February. Daniel’s Aunt and Uncle happened to live in the same town as Katelyn, and were incredibly gracious to open their home to me during my stay.
I spent those two and a half days in Virginia, incredibly overwhelmed. But even as overwhelmed as I was, Katelyn’s words hit me hard, and I couldn’t shake them. Building a business based on serving others is exactly what I had been wanting to achieve and wasn’t sure how and serving others through her business is exactly what she’s achieved, and achieved it beautifully.
I returned from the workshop revived, created a list of what I wanted to accomplish for 2016. And. Did. Just. That.
The Katelyn James Workshop Experience transformed Two Arrows in 2016, and I am so excited to see what transformations occur in 2017.
So, how about a pretty styled shoot?
It rained. There was snow on the ground. But the models were a real life married couple and their real life love outshined the gloomy weather and this venue… Oh my, this venue. I would’ve loved to have spent hours roaming Dover Hall.
