You know those moments when things don’t go as planned, but they somehow end up even better? That is how I feel about this session I’m sharing today.
I was supposed to shoot Johnny and Caitlin’s gender reveal/family session Monday late afternoon. It was an inside shoot so weather wasn’t supposed to be a factor, however, Monday’s thunderstorms made such dark gray skies. So dark, in fact, at 3:30 in the afternoon I was struggling to see in my home and had to start turning on lights.
I have studio lights I could’ve used to make enough light so the session would’ve been fine. I knew they would be carrying in quite a bit of stuff for this session and even with an umbrella they would end up soaked. I also knew, with as much artificial lighting I was going to have to use it was going to be extremely difficult for me to produce the style of images they typically receive from me.
Caitlin and I decided it would be best to move the session to the following day at noon. Unfortunately, with the session change Johnny wasn’t able to get free from work, so when just Caitlin and Ryder showed up to my studio, the session had a last minute direction change.
No offense Johnny, but I’m kinda glad it ended up working out this way, I. AM. OBSESSED. with Mommy & Me sessions. I am a firm believer that every mom should get to have a one on one session with her babies. Ryder is at a fun age, he was also wound for sound during this session, so getting him to cuddle was more like him trying to WWE his momma, but I really do love how these turned out and I hope Caitlin (and Johnny) cherish these.
You may also have noticed the pink balloons, since this was also a gender reveal session, it’s official that a little sister will be joining their family in September.
I am SO excited for them!
