An Early Spring Engagement Session — Davis & Julie

It’s the last wedding of the year day!!! This is always a fun and exciting day for us, because it wraps up a season. There is a sense of completion knowing how many wonderful couples we were able to serve in a calendar year. I’m already looking forward to 2019, but I would be lying if I didn’t say we’re both looking forward to the rest of recharge of winter slow season.

I laugh when I type that, because winter slow season for me, is not slow for the farm. Since the grass isn’t growing, it means our cattle are dependent on us to make sure their stomachs are fed are couple of times a day.

My couple below you’re about to meet are also a farming family! Julie’s family has chicken houses like us, as well as crops. It’s kinda fun to me that each year I have a wedding couple who also raises Chickens in our area for Perdue!

Since Davis and Julie were planning a winter wonderland wedding, they opted for a spring engagement session. They live in Illinois, but wanted their session of Julie’s family farm—they’re schedule didn’t allow for a morning or evening golden hour and we were left shooting at high-noon!

Because the sun is out and the brightest people think that is the easiest time of day to shoot, when it is actually the hardest since the sun is directly overhead and creating crazy harsh shadows.

It’s not impossible to shoot this time of day and create beautiful portraits, it just requires more creativity and patience than usual. Thankfully, Davis and Julie were totally on board for whatever I had to do to make it work and we captured gorgeous images that I’m very much obsessed with.

Let’s start with this redbud tree… With the perfect spring outfits Julie selected combined with the tree bursting with spring—it was so magical I didn’t want to leave this spot!!

I just think this looks like something straight out of a Disney movie! Which is perfect since Julie is Disney obsessed!!!

“Into the woods,
It’s time to go,
I hate to leave,
I have to, though.
Into the woods-
It’s time, and so
I must begin my journey.”

That is what I was singing in my head as we left the redbud and found this wooded spot on the farm. Did I make this all a fairytale in my head? Absolutely!

Of course a farmer’s daughter needs to have a few farm themed shots!

I know I said the redbud tree was my favorite, but now that I see these pond shots again, it’s a toss up. The great thing about the clear water and light wood decking is that they all serve as natural reflectors. This is important when you’re shooting midday!

The wind was blowing SO HARD here, but even though it made it difficult for them to here me yelling, I’m so happy for that wind, it really gave these shots an extra level of romantic. I mean, just look at them!

And we finished up with PUPPIES!!! Puppies need not explanation, they create happiness no matter what!

Happy wedding day Davis and Julie!!! We’ll see you two in a few hours!!!
