Last Glowy Fall Days of 2019 with the Bumm Family

Filed in: Family

If I’ve learned anything in my seven years as a photographer it’s that you have to be willing to constantly see things in a different ‘light.’

I’ve shot many a session at YellowCreek Park in Owensboro, I know the areas of it I like depending on the time of year, however, when it came time to shoot the Bumm family session it was much later in the *fall* (it was almost winter) AND this session needed to be shot earlier in the day due to nap/feeding schedules for the littlest. As it would happen, my favorites spots in the park were either not in good light at this time of day or all the leaves were gone and the “fall” look Kristen was hoping for in her family portraits was not going to happen.

So I showed up early for this session and went for a walk, and on my walk I found this magical unicorn fall spot even though it was practically Thanksgiving.

We shot their entire family session on this one little spot on a park walkway that just happened to have a few leaves left and glowy golden light, and even though it was the same small spot I was able to give Kristen a full gallery of diversity.

Photographers, my advice is to always show up early, be willing to look at typical locations from different viewpoints, focus on people more than the location and you’ll be golden like golden hour.
